Please help! I had this running fine before but I recently had to replace the hard drive. I'm still running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and cannot get past 'Testing PHP'. When I click on my computer's website in System Preferences I get the following error (much like the gentleman running Lion above):

"Not Found

The requested URL / was not found on this server."

I have not been able to find a solution to this on the web. My search parameters are either too wide or so narrow that the returns are non-existent. I even tried MAMP and the Apache and MySQL servers won't start. I've restarted my computer but that didn't help. I'm running on a Linux network but I'm logged in as a local user. Any help you can provide would be so much appreciated.

Thank you!

If you want stability: When you have a devoted server you are yourself. You do not have to share with you the web server along with nobody else would've access to your current host. Thus your complete info is safe. This safety factors unavailable in almost any web server. Should you be on the shared host after that some users could probably examine your computer data. Regarding VPS the particular sysadmin can see crucial computer data nevertheless on dedicated server there may be finish to safeguard important computer data.

Using Processor power: If you are with a Virtual private server or even on a distributed server next the Random access memory, I/O methods and also Pc all are discussed by simply various other people. It often can happen that particular end user will take upward all the Computer energy and the effectiveness on the hosting server might get impacted horribly. When this happens you can not do one thing, however, if you are on a dedicated hosting server the Processor is correct exclusively for your web site and when the server sets next also you can have therapy for the idea.

Performance from the server: When it comes to specific machine you'd be alone to work with each of the resources with the machine. Hence the actual functionality from the dedicated server is very useful.

On the other hand, do not forget that there are disadvantages in an avid web server also. If you work with an avid machine you will want to regulate of which server way too in addition to take care of its setting as well as basic safety and as well overseeing. Regarding shared as well as Virtual private server web server most of these efforts are treated through sysadmin. Consequently, you might want all the techie abilities to own a separate host.

Hi Stevie. I am a complete novice trying to teach myself database programming. With your help I have been able to get php/apache running on my Mac OS 10.5.8. I downloaded MySql 5.5.20-osx10.5-x86_64. I have a problem installing the PrefPane. The MySql icon is in my SystemPref, but tells me "You cannot open MySQL preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac."
I would appreciate some help.
Thanks!

Okay so the mysql.sock file isn't there! I'm brand new to Linux based programming and don't know an awful lot about macs so I might be missing something obvious.

mysql.sock doesn't exist, infact the whole mysql/ folder doesn't exist. I have looked in tmp and var and neither seem to have the file or folder. Why would that be? How do I fix this?

Thanks.

@Kris: Your Virtual Directories are all setup correctly if you've gotten as far as attempting to install CMS software. The issue you're having is permissions on the directories in your Sites folder. You'll either need to use Terminal to change those or using the "Get Info" dialog box. Google will be your friend in showing you how to do this.
