Productivity is my middle name

Category: Happenings on May 23. 2008 with 2 comments — Bookmark this article

I was quite productive today… finished the contact form, put together this video email for a campaign the GA Dept. at WA Realtors are doing for RPAC, got Reverb is not a lie up and running, tried to gas up my car.

Wait… what?

Yeah when I tried to gas up the ol’ Aveo tonight gas started spitting back out, not down the tank as you’d expect. Perhaps it’s related to the check engine light coming on earlier in the week? Who knows but it was weird and I guess I’ll be taking it to Titus-Will tomorrow. Thank goodness for warranties.

But the real tragedy is I won’t be able to go see my girls in Bellingham. Kinda depressed about that. It’s a long weekend and I’ll have no idea what to do with myself.

Good thing productivity is my middle name…

Conquering the beast

Category: Happenings on May 22. 2008 with no comments — Bookmark this article

Well my attempt to get a working staff contact form for warealtor.org was successful. Albeit not without a little adventure. Till today (or more like yesterday) I never really did anything with classic ASP outside of doing simple file includes. But I was able to taste victory after a few losing battles.

The tutorial I was following used a email function called CDONTS that I found out was deprecated in Windows Server 2003. However the variable structure used to hide email addresses was exactly what the doctor ordered. I’d already adapted this along with a select box holding staff email addresses in my HTML form. So I researched the way Win Server 2k3 likes to handle email and found a built in function called CDOSYS. I figured out how to properly deploy that from of all places w3schools.com. So I massaged (the term I like to use to annoy Erika) the script with this knowledge and…

Still plugging away

Been busy doing other things the past few days instead of working on this stupid site. Started doing some technology consulting for a local law firm called Allied Law Group. They gave me a list of things they need accomplished. Monday I was able to get one of their Palm Treo’s synced to their Exchange server… apparently a couple different techs over the past year couldn’t figure it out. Not sure what their problem was but within about 10 minutes I had it syncing to Exchange. Mind you I’d never even touched a Palm before then. Was scratching my head the whole walk home about that one.

Over the phone this afternoon, I walked the other lawyer in Seattle through syncing hers to Exchange. They seem to be pretty happy. Now it’s on to other tasks that will be more challenging and will likely increase my knowledge of working with Exchange.

So that’s my excuse for not working on this site. Need to get cracking as its present stripped down, sans images nature is beginning to make me feel self-conscious.

Will likely get to do my first classic ASP coding session tomorrow at work for this contact form project I randomly decided to start today. Hopefully the tutorial I found actually works.

Social networking with Ning

Category: Happenings on May 14. 2008 with no comments — Bookmark this article

So my day job is being an IT Specialist for the Washington Association of Realtors. We’ve been talking a lot about getting into social networking as it seems like a hand in glove sort of fit for Realtors. We’ve looked at a number of platforms like BuddyPress and Konnects, but I’m most excited about Ning…

A Study in Minimalism

Surprise, surprise not a whole lot of image content up yet (except for the Last.fm covers). It seems like whenever I start a project, my planning is less than optimal and I end up working within seemingly undefined limitations. Or perhaps limitations are what push my creativity. Can never quite figure that one out…
